The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
